I am a seasoned c-suite executive with more than 20 years experience in global roles across mining, manufacturing, engineering and construction.
A values and purpose driven leader, I have a passion for helping to drive business performance and growth through the interplay of strategy, organisational operating model, leadership, systems capability and culture.
I have a proven track record working with Boards and Executive Teams to build alignment and develop sustainable, fit-for-purpose solutions to address problems and capture opportunities.
Biography
After growing up in Mandurah, south of Perth, Steve graduated with Honours in Economics from the Univesity of Western Australia (UWA) in 1992, completing a double major in economics and industrial relations.
His early career saw him work as a researcher at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA, while also teaching at UWA.
After a stint at the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, Steve moved into management and industrial relations consulting, before taking a HR Manager role for global Chemicals, Manufacturing and Mining Services giant, Orica Ltd, in 2005.
While at Orica, he undertook a series of significant turnaround and restructuring projects, including a transformation of the Orica Latin America business, during which time he lived in Santiagio, Chile.
On returning to Australia, Steve took a series of Corporate/Global leadership roles in Organisation Development and Human Resources Management for Orica, moving to the company's global headquarters in Melbourne, Australia.
In 2016, he was appointed Executive General Manager Human Resources for multinational infastructure business McConnell Dowell Corporation Ltd, also headquartered in Melbourne. In 2019, he took on the role of EGM Group Strategy in addition to his HR portfolio.
In 2022, Steve was appointed Chief Strategy Officer, Chief People Officer and Chief Risk Officer for McConnell Dowell's publicly-listed parent company, Aveng Ltd. In this broad ranging c-suite portfolio role, he led the Strategy & Planning, Marketing, Communications, Human Resources and Risk Management functions for the Group's mining, infrastructure and building businesses across Africa, Australia and Asia Pacific.
Steve is married to Shanon, an Anaesthetist, and together they have two adult sons. Outside of his professional life, Steve is an accomplished musician and writer.
